Swedish Energy Firm Elvy Secures Investment From Actor Leonardo DiCaprio
The funding follows a broader growth strategy as the company aims to reach 600 MW of distributed energy capacity within three years.
Swedish energy-as-a-service provider Elvy has announced that actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio has joined the company as an investor. The investment was part of a SEK 16 million funding round extension for the firm. This capital injection follows a separate SEK 70 million round completed in May 2026, which was led by Daft Capital and Essential Capital.
Elvy operates a subscription model that provides households with solar panels, battery storage, and heat pumps without requiring upfront installation costs. Customers instead pay a fixed monthly fee, while the company manages the equipment using a proprietary artificial intelligence engine. According to the firm, this approach resulted in an average of 60% in household energy savings during 2025, a period the company described as its breakout year of growth. Revenue for the same year increased 10-fold on a year-on-year basis.
The company, which launched its subscription service in 2024 with 100 customers, reported that its user base had expanded to 1,000 households by February 2026. Currently, Elvy has established 23 MW of capacity across its distributed energy fleet in Sweden. Looking ahead, CEO and co-founder Johan Outinen stated that the firm intends to invest more than SEK 10 billion to secure 600 MW of distributed energy capacity over the next three years.
Regarding his decision to invest, DiCaprio noted that Elvy demonstrates how energy efficiency can be both measurable for homeowners and scalable as a business. He highlighted the potential for the company’s model to transform how energy is produced, managed, and consumed. DiCaprio has previously invested in the renewable energy sector, including supporting the German residential solar company Enpal through the investment fund Princeville Climate Technology in 2020.
Alongside the investment news, Elvy has launched a customer referral platform intended to simplify the transition to renewable energy for households. The company has not disclosed the specific details of DiCaprio’s financial contribution.
