Apple and Schneider Electric Unveil New Smart Thermostat for Home Energy Management
The device integrates with Apple Home to optimize heating and cooling schedules based on occupancy and local electricity pricing.
Schneider Electric has partnered with Apple to develop a new smart thermostat designed to improve home energy efficiency. Set to launch in the United States and Canada in early 2027, the device aims to reduce electricity costs by automatically shifting heating and cooling operations to periods when power is cheaper and cleaner.
The thermostat integrates directly with the Apple Home app, eliminating the need for third-party accounts or separate software. A key feature, known as Adaptive Temperature, utilizes iPhone intelligence to detect whether residents are home or away, adjusting temperatures accordingly without manual programming. For users with compatible utility plans in the contiguous United States, the Clean Energy Guidance feature provides insights into peak and off-peak rates to further optimize energy consumption.
The hardware supports the Matter connectivity protocol and Thread, ensuring network stability even during internet outages. Setup is facilitated through NFC pairing, allowing users to initiate the process by placing an iPhone near the device. Optional room sensors are available to monitor temperature and humidity, while the system can also interface with sensors embedded in HomeView, HomePod, and HomePod mini devices.
Schneider Electric has set a suggested retail price of $199.99 for the thermostat, with Apple listing the price four cents lower. Optional room sensors will be priced at $39.99, with Apple offering them for four cents less. Additionally, Schneider announced a series of magnetic power mounts for the wall-mounted HomeView, including USB-C, hardwired AC, and Power over Ethernet options, with pricing ranging from $59.99 to $129.99. Further details regarding the product line are expected to be shared at CES 2027 in Las Vegas.
