Rezolv Energy has secured the necessary authorization from the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority to proceed with the Dama Solar project, a massive 1.2 GW solar PV installation in Arad County. Once operational in 2028, the facility is expected to become the largest solar project within the European Union. The developer has finalized the required legal approvals, allowing the initiative to transition into the financing and procurement phases. Supported by two contracts for difference, the project aims to bolster regional energy capacity while integrating significant battery energy storage to enhance grid flexibility and output stability.
The project has undergone design and technology updates that increased its total capacity from the initially announced 1.04 GW to 1.2 GW. Backed by Actis, Rezolv Energy acquired the development rights in late 2022. Beyond its primary function as a renewable energy generator, the site will feature a substantial battery energy storage system. This storage component is designed to provide essential flexibility to the local energy system, ensuring a more reliable supply of electricity.
Environmental stewardship is also a core component of the development. Plans for the site include the creation of an 82-hectare nature reserve, which the developer describes as one of the most significant private-led ecological restoration initiatives associated with a solar project in Southeastern Europe. With the regulatory hurdles cleared, the company is currently finalizing financial arrangements. Construction is slated to begin shortly after the project reaches financial close, marking a major milestone for Romania’s renewable energy sector and the broader European transition toward sustainable power.
